9 Mentoring Children with Read Ahead Pace University Students and Staff are Read Ahead Mentors Through CCAR, Pace University partnerts with Read Ahead, a non- profit that implements a reading-based mentoring program for elementary students. Our volunteer mentors spend one hour per week reading and bonding with students (age 5-12) from P.S. 1, an elementary school about 10 minutes from Pace's NYC campus. In 2017–18, 24 students and staff made this weekly commitment. Representing Pace at the National Women's Convention Detroit, MI, October 27–29, 2017 The CCAR and the LGBTQA Center took 10 students including Lindita Kulla '21, Digital Cinema and Filmmaking, (pictured) to the National Women's Convention in Detroit, MI last October. It was a weekend of workshops, strategy sessions, forums and intersectional movement building, tapping into the power of women in leadership as a fundamental, grassroots force for change. Participating in Days of Service Make A Difference Day, Paint A School Day, and Setter's Day of Service In addition to ongoing and one-time service events, there are also full days each semester where masses of Pace students head out into their communities to give back. Organized by the CCAR in collaboration with other University departments, these Days of Service allow for maximum community impact. 458 students volunteered with 18 community organizations on these days to paint murals in underserved schools, clear hiking trails, beautify parks, and more. 2017–2018 CCAR Highlights
