30 PSY 840 ADVANCED NEUROPSYCHOLOGY I (PSYD) 2 credits is course provides an overview of neurological disorders as they relate to the practice of neuropsychology. e focus will be on the role of neu- ropsychological theory and practice with respect to responding to neuro- psychological referral questions. Students will be familiarized with fun- damentals of applied neuropsychological literature and professional and ethical standards in neuropsychological assessment. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 841 ADVANCED NEUROPSYCHOLOGY II (PSYD) 2 credits is course will focus on the expansion of neuropsychological assessment and report-writing skills. Students will be trained in a variety of neuropsy- chological assessment strategies and a focus will be placed on developing critical thinking and diagnostic skills in generating neuropsychological re- ports that specifically address neuropsychological referral questions. Each student will carry out comprehensive neuropsychological assessment un- der supervision. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 842 CRISIS INTERVENTION, BRIEF AND SHORT-TERM PSYCHOTHERAPIES (PSYD) 3 credits is course surveys the history, theory and techniques of crisis interven- tion, brief and short-term psychotherapies from psychodynamic, strate- gic, and solution-focused intervention perspectives. Illustrative case ma- terial from students' field experiences are discussed. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 844 PARENTHOOD AND PARENT-CHILD RELATIONS (PSYD) 2 credits Parenthood and parent-child relations are universally acknowledged as a major influence on child and adolescent school adaptation and function- ing. is course provides knowledge of relevant empirical research on the role of parenthood as a major influence on child and adolescent school functioning. In addition, skills in applying methods and techniques for professional interventions with parents are covered. Methods and tech- niques of working with parents individually, as a couple, with families and in groups, both educationally and therapeutically, are studied. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 848 ADVANCED SUBSTANCE USE COUNSELING: THEORY & PRACTICE 2 credits is course serves as an introduction to the substance use counseling. e primary goals for the course are to increase students' understanding of substance use disorders, to facilitate the development of addiction coun- seling competencies associated with positive treatment outcomes, and to increase the students' level of confidence in the provision of substance abuse evaluation and treatment services. Emphasis will be placed on de- veloping and practicing substance abuse counseling skills. Students will be introduced to different theoretical models of alcohol and drug abuse and ill explore a variety of treatment approaches including the Transtheoreti- cal Model of Change and Motivational Interviewing. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 849: PSYCHOPHARMACOLOGY 2 credits is course covers psychopharmacology associated with the practice of psychology. Issues in the use of medications, medications themselves, and the interface between individuals and their biopsychosocial natures are explored. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 857 INFANT/TODDLER ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION (PSYD) 3 credits is course considers infant and toddler assessment, including cognitive development, physical development, language and speech development, psychosocial development, and self-help skills. Issues of assessment in terms of developmental delay and at-risk are addressed. Early interven- tion services for infants and toddlers who are at-risk or developmentally delayed are also covered. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 858 PRESCHOOL ASSESSMENT AND INTERVENTION (PSYD) 3 credits is course considers preschooler assessment, including cognitive, lan- guage, physical and psychosocial development. Further early intervention programs and issues are covered. Prerequisite: Matriculation in the MSEd or PsyD program. PSY 860 FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP (PSYD) 0 credit is summer full-time internship may be required by New York State for licensing. PSY 861 FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP I (PSYD) 0 credit is full-time internship is required by New York State for licensing. Prerequisites: Completion of 92 credits toward PsyD and permission of Director of Field Training PSY 862 FULL-TIME INTERNSHIP II (PSYD) 0 credit is full-time internship is required by New York State for licensing. Diverse methods and theories of group intervention are covered. Prerequisites: PSY 708, PSY 711, PSY 723 PSY 876 MULTICULTURAL/GENDER SKILL ISSUES (MSED/PSYD) 3 credits is course considers the range of multicultural and gender issues in the theory and practice of psychology. e focus is on sensitizing the practi- tioner to the impact of multicultural perspectives and gender differences in psychological assessment and intervention strategies with children, ad- olescents and families.
