13 tributed internship requirement over a maximum time period of three years. A grade of K (grade pending) remains on the student's transcript until the distributed internship is completed. Each student is required to receive signed approval from the Director of Field Training before the onset of all field training activities in each set- ting. Each student must also submit forms signed by his/her psychology field supervisor that attest to the nature, content, and duration of these training experiences. COMPETENCY BASED ASSESSMENT Students are monitored with respect to attainment of Discipline Specific Knowledge (DSK) and Profession-Wide Competencies (PWC). At least some portion of the evaluation for each competency area involves direct observation of the student. Some of these competency evaluations are embedded within required clinic practica or coursework. Other evalua- tions of competency take place through proficiency and competency ex- aminations (e.g. Qualifying Examination, Comprehensive Examination). Both clinic psychotherapy supervisors and psychology supervisors in students' externship and internship settings also provide ratings of com- petence across the broad range of professional competencies addressed within the program. Students consistently are provided feedback regard- ing mastery of competencies. Additionally, each student is provided with at least one annual feedback meeting with faculty members in which all information pertaining to both DSK and PWC in school-clinical child psychology is gathered, strengths noted, suggestions for growth provid- ed, and an overall evaluation determined. Each student also receives a written evaluation on an annual basis. COMPREHENSIVE EXAMINATION During the last semester of school psychology internship (typically the third year of the doctoral program), students are required to take the Comprehensive Examination. Students who have completed the first three years of doctoral course work, and have completed 1,200 hours of distributed internship, including 750 hours in a school setting, are eligi- ble to be recommended to the New York State Department of Education for Certification in School Psychology. Students must pass the Compre- hensive Examination in order to proceed to further doctoral study. Stu- dents are permitted to take the Comprehensive Examination a maximum of two times. ADVANCED STANDING STUDENTS Advanced Standing students are those who have satisfactorily complet- ed the course work and internship requirements of a school psychology program and are eligible for New York State School Psychology Certifica- tion.
