19 PROGRAM DIRECTOR: Dr. Barbara Mowder, Director, Graduate Psychology Programs (New York City campus) One Pace Plaza (212) 346-1556 (212) 346-1618 (FAX) bmowder@pace.edu Curriculum – Bilingual Specialization Students in the Bilingual Specialization in School Psychology Program must successfully complete all prerequisites and requirements for the MSEd program in School Psychology, with the following modifications and additions: Fieldwork Requirements: Students in the Bilingual Specialization Program must enroll in the Bi- lingual School-Clinical Child Psychology Internship Seminar sequence (PSY 750A; PSY 751A). is includes a minimum of 1200 clock hours, of which a minimum of 600 clock hours must be completed in a school setting that provides opportunity for the delivery of bilingual school psy- chological services. It is expected that the training experience will devote at least 30% of the time working with bilingual populations. Additional Coursework (9 credits) Students in the Bilingual Specialization must additionally complete the following coursework: PSY 741 Communication & Language & the Bilingual Child in the Classroom (1 credit) SPE 745 Bilingual Language Development and Disorders (3 credits) PSY 709A Practicum: Counseling the Culturally Different (1 credit) PSY 703A Practicum: Limiting Bias in Bilingual Assessment (1 credit) Confirmation of the MSEd in School Psychology with a Specialization in Bilingual School Psychology Students who successfully complete all of the requirements for the MSEd in School Psychology as well as the additional requirements for the Bi- lingual Specialization, and pass the proficiency examination, will receive the MSEd in School Psychology degree with a Bilingual Specialization from Pace University and be recommended to New York State for the Bilingual Education Extension (PPS/ADMIN) to the New York State cer- tificate in School Psychology. Advanced standing students matriculated in the PsyD program are also eligible to complete the Bilingual Extension program. Note: Candidates who would like to pursue school psychology certification in states other than New York should contact the Program Director. Transfer Credit Students in the MSEd School Psychology programs may be allowed up to a maximum of 30 graduate credits for transfer purposes; doctor- al students are allowed up to 45 credits for transfer credit for the PsyD program. Transfer credit is based on comparability of courses, and each course is evaluated individually by faculty members. All applications for transfer credit must be submitted no later than October 31 of the first year in which students enter the program. Students from New York State approved school psychology programs receive 45 transfer credits toward the PsyD and are required to pass the Comprehensive Examination and complete all fourth and fih year courses, plus any master's-level courses they are lacking, at Pace University. Typically, no transfer credit is grant- ed for third- or fourth-year courses and also PSY 713, PSY 715, and PSY 720. Usually, courses taken over five years prior to student program ad- mission are not granted transfer credit. Transcript evaluation occurs aer program admission and matriculation. Academic Standing Students must maintain at least a "B" (3.00) average in the MSEd and PsyD programs. Students whose averages fall below a "B" are referred to the Psychology Department Scholastic Standing Committee and may be dismissed or may be allowed a period of one semester to restore their standing to a "B" average. Failure to do so in one semester constitutes suf- ficient reason for dismissal from graduate programs. Two grades below "B-" in graduate courses are sufficient grounds for review by the Psychol- ogy Department Scholastic Standing Committee, and possible dismissal from the program. A grade of "F" in any course is grounds for dismissal from the program. Failure to maintain any of the standards noted in the Completion Requirements also constitutes grounds for dismissal from the MSEd and PsyD programs. Furthermore, students engaged in any unethical or unprofessional practices may be dismissed. All Psychology Department, Dyson College, and Pace University policies apply. Completion Requirements Satisfactory completion of MSEd program requirements is determined by an ongoing evaluation process. Typically, the evaluation includes grades in courses, progress in the development of competencies, and performance on the Qualifying and other examinations. Completion of the MSEd program includes reports and observations by faculty and co- operating supervisors of the student's academic, professional demeanor, and professional practice performance. Leave of Absence A leave of absence may be applied for in the event a student needs to discontinue graduate study for a period of time. Request for a Leave is submitted to the Director of MSEd and PsyD Graduate Psychology Pro- grams for approval and may be granted for up to two calendar years. A leave of absence does not extend the time for completion of a graduate program, unless specifically requested/approved, due to an extraordinary circumstance. Time Limit Doctoral Program – For students entering the doctoral program with- out advanced standing, there is a maximum of 10 years within which all requirements for graduation must be met. For students entering at the advanced standing level, there is a maximum of six years within which all requirements for graduation must be complete. Master's Program – Full-time students must complete the requirements within five years and part-time students within seven years. MASTER OF ARTS IN PSYCHOLOGY e Dyson College of Arts and Sciences Psychology Department in New York City offers a 36-credit hour Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology. Starting fall 2019, the program includes 21 hours of required courses and 15 hours of elective courses. e program provides graduate students with a general academic foundation in the field of psychology, and fills a training gap in the changing professional preparation for employment in human service organizations. It also may be suited to those who may seek to further their study at the doctoral level. e program offers a wide variety of required and elective courses that provide students with
