In February, the NYC campus hosted 41 students, staff, and faculty members from Pace University and Wagner College for "Debating for Democracy on the Road: An Activism Training with Beautiful Trouble," Project Pericles's day-long workshop that promotes civic engagement on college campuses. Nadine Bloch of Beautiful Trouble, an international network of artist- activist trainers, led participants through a mix of skill- building activities, presentations, and brainstorming sessions. Bloch shared her personal experience with creative and nonviolent cultural resistance, and with her guidance, participants explored effective strategies to apply to their own nonviolent advocacy campaigns. They came away with a broad understanding of effective strategies of resistance and how to build relationships through action. CCAR: Annual Report 2019–2020 15 Debating for Democracy on the Road: An Activism Training with Beautiful Trouble "I was really impressed by the tools presented at the conference. I especially appreciated the presentation about shifting the Spectrum of Allies... Activism is about using your power to make a change. We have to be able to empower our participants." —Shaniya Francis '22
