www.pace.edu/dyson/psych-nyc scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE)* (the general examination is required and the psychology examination is recommended), three letters of reference, a personal statement, and a completed Pace University application form with the associated fee. • As a program prerequisite, students must have background preparation in abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, experimental psychology, general psychology, learning theory, personality theory, and statistics. In addition, students must have courses or show competencies in principles and problems in education and curriculum development or methods of teaching and instruction. Students should also have a knowledge base in human biology suitable for someone preparing to become a health service psychologist. It is required that students have all psychology prerequisite preparation prior to entering the program. If incoming students are missing one or a few prerequisites, those requirements may be satisfied by taking appropriate undergraduate coursework during the summer, prior to matriculation, or successful completions of the relevant, related examination(s). It is possible for students to complete some of the program prerequisites (i.e., education) aer program admission. • Students need to be familiar with major theoretical concepts, empirical findings and historical trends in psychology, as well as some knowledge and experience using basic research methods. ey should possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a capacity for critical thinking, and an ability to act ethically. Students need to be able to work well with others and appreciate diversity in its broadest sense. ey must be open to examining personal values and to acquire and utilize professionally relevant knowledge regardless of their own beliefs and values. • Some international applicants will need to submit TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson PTE academic scores in accordance with Pace University admissions policies. Selection for admission is based on careful review of applicant folders by the PsyD core and associated faculty. Multiple criteria are employed to determine eligibility for admission, including previous levels of academic performance, GRE scores, letters of recommendation, previous work and research experience, as well as any aspects related to individual and cultural diversity or life experience that an applicant may bring to the program. Applicants selected for an interview will be interviewed by faculty and frequently by students as well. e interview process also typically includes an opportunity for interaction with current PsyD students. Final decisions are based upon faculty discussion focused on all aspects of an applicant's credentials. e PsyD program adheres to APA timelines pertaining to admissions decisions. Information pertaining to size of each class admitted, attrition rates, and other student outcomes can be found on the Pace University Psychology Department website. Program curriculum Prior to receiving the doctoral degree in school-clinical child psychology, students must first complete a master's degree in school psychology or have been awarded state or national school psychology certification. Sixty-nine hours of the first three years of study in the doctoral program generally correspond to the MSEd in School Psychology at Pace University. Students may enter the program with graduate work from other institutions; the prior graduate work is evaluated for transfer credit on a course-by-course basis aer acceptance into the doctoral program.† e PsyD program carefully and sequentially develops competencies through an integrated framework that interweaves scientific and professional coursework with practicum and other fieldwork experiences. Comprehensive field training includes: • ree years of on-site supervised practicum experience through Pace University's omas J. McShane Center for Psychological Services. Students have the opportunity to receive a broad range of training experiences that include intakes and interviewing, psychotherapy, diagnostic assessment, and parent-infant observation and evaluation (See current manual for the McShane Psychological Services Center for a complete listing and schedule of current practicum offerings). e doctoral program also requires a one year off- site supervised practicum at an approved school district setting. • Four years of supervised fieldwork experience. ese experiences include school and clinic or community placements and involve training in assessment, consultation, remedial interventions, psychotherapeutic interventions, and program development and research. All students in the doctoral program are required to have a total of at least 3,500 clock hours of pre-doctoral, school and clinical child psychology experience. At least 750 clock hours of this fieldwork experience must be in a school setting. Several options are available for students to complete this requirement.† † * GRE scores are required for guaranteed consideration for admissions.
