www.pace.edu/dyson/psych-nyc Doctor of Psychology in School-Clinical Child Psychology Program overview e PsyD Program in School-Clinical Child Psychology (111 credits) carefully integrates field experience with academic preparation within a practitioner-scholar training model. Students are trained in psychological foundations, assessment and evaluation techniques, remediation and intervention procedures, psychotherapeutic interventions and applied research. Further, students are prepared as health service providers in the context of evidence-based practice. e focus of research training is to be able to conduct research that integrates science and practice, and applies existing knowledge to solve practical problems. Emphasis within the program is placed on professional preparation in the delivery of psychological services. Bilingual students enrolled in the PsyD Program in School- Clinical Child Psychology may choose to complete additional training that enables them to provide school psychological services to children in both monolingual and bilingual settings. e bilingual specialization requires additional coursework and practicum experiences that provide integrated training in bilingual language development and disorders, allowing students to be eligible for the Bilingual Education Extension (PPS/ADMIN) to the New York State teaching certificate in School Psychology.† Purpose of the program e goal of Pace University's PsyD Program in School-Clinical Child Psychology is to prepare professional psychologists as health service providers with expertise in school and clinical psychology in the context of evidence-based practice. ese professional psychologists will be prepared to develop, provide, supervise, and research a full range of evidence-based psychological services. ey will be uniquely prepared to provide clinical and educational expertise and consultation within school and clinical settings in order to best serve children and families across a variety of systems of service delivery. e program utilizes a practitioner-scholar training model that prepares psychologists to provide primarily direct and, to some extent, indirect services from a variety of theoretical perspectives. Graduates will have completed all pre-doctoral academic and internship requirements needed to be admitted to the New York State Licensing Examination for the professional practice of psychology. Typically graduates from the program have been awarded the Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in School Psychology (or equivalent program in school psychology), and recommended for New York State* Certification in School Psychology. e PsyD in School- Clinical Child Psychology is fully accredited as a combined school- clinical program by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP). APA 750 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002 (202) 336-5979 NASP 4340 East West Highway, Suite 402, Bethesda, MD 20814 (301) 657-0270 Program goals e PsyD program follows a competency-based model in which students are evaluated and monitored with respect to their progress toward attainment of discipline-specific knowledge (DSK) and profession-wide competencies (PWC) appropriate to a school-clinical child psychologist. Discipline-specific knowledge PsyD program students develop a scientific approach to knowledge generation and scientific foundations for evaluating practices, interventions and programs. ey will recognize the relationship between evidence-based practice and current scientific knowledge, including mastery of: • Biological bases of behavior • Cognitive bases of behavior • Affective bases of behavior • Social aspects of behavior • Psychological measurement • Research methodology and techniques of data collection • Statistical analysis • History and systems of psychology • Development across the lifespan Profession-wide competencies in school-clinical child psychology ere are nine competency goals within the PsyD in School-Clinical Child Psychology program. Below is a shortened presentation that reflects changes in the PsyD Program to be consistent with Health Service Provider training. Goal 1 Research/evaluation: Developing an appropriate knowledge of how research methodology and statistics form the basis of evidence- based practice. a. Understanding research methodology and appropriate integration of methodology with appropriate statistical techniques at a level that will enable competent review of † Students should consult the Program Director to confirm that bilingual certification is available in a given language. * Candidates who wish to acquire school psychology certification in states other than New York should consult with the Program Director.
