E D U / D Y S O N 25 Shamita Du a Gupta, PhD, Presented with Mathematical Association of America Distinguished Teaching Award Professor of Mathematics Shamita Du a Gupta, PhD, was presented with a Mathematical Association of America (MAA) Distinguished Teaching Award at the organization's Metro New York Section Annual Meeting, which was held this spring at Pace. Du a Gupta, who has been a member of the Mathematics depa ment at Pace since 2000, earning tenure in 2002, was recognized by the MAA for her innovative curriculum development, prolific research, and dedication to student success. At Pace, Du a Gupta has launched several learning communities, including interdisciplinary programs with the English and Women's and Gender Studies depa ments. Du a Gupta's courses center on experiential learning, and she employs effective strategies to promote student success and retention in calculus sequence courses. She also serves as faculty advisor to undergraduate students conducting research. Vyshali Manivannan, PhD, Honored with Rutgers School of Graduate Studies Distinguished Scholarly Achievement Award Deemed the Rutgers School of Graduate Studies's most prestigious honor, the Distinguished Scholarly Achievement Award is presented to "a student who demonstrates the highest possible level of academic excellence and achievement." Clinical Assistant Professor of Writing and Cultural Studies Vyshali Manivannan, PhD, was this year's recipient, selected from all School of Graduate Studies Doctor of Philosophy candidates. Manivannan earned her degree in Communication, Information, and Media from Rutgers last fall. Maria Iacullo-Bird, PhD, Named President of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) Assistant Provost for Research and Clinical Associate Professor of History Maria Iacullo-Bird, PhD, has been named president of the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR), the leading national organizational voice on undergraduate research, for 2024–25. In addition to her internal service as the former chair of the Society of Fellows and the inaugural director of Pace's Center for Undergraduate Research Experiences, Iacullo-Bird has served in leadership roles with CUR since 2013, including councilor, A s and Humanities Division chair, and member of the executive board. She will serve as president-elect for 2023–24 before rising to president the following term. MPA Professors Co- Author Repo on Community Needs Professors of Public Administration Rebecca Tekula, PhD, and Gina Scutelnicu-Todoran, PhD, co-authored a repo —in pa nership with the Helene T. and Grant M. Wilson Center for Social Entrepreneurship at Pace University and the Community Fund of Bronxville, Eastchester, and Tuckahoe—that identified growing needs in the areas of mental health, substance abuse, and suicide prevention services in lower Westchester. The survey, which took place over 18 months, consisted of interviews with local nonprofits, service providers, and stakeholders. The Pace faculty presented the findings this spring at the Bronxville Public Library, while offering recommendations for how the results can inform the work of the Community Fund and other local organizations.
