26 Dyson College of Arts and Sciences September 2013 n Peter Fingesten Gallery at Pace's New York City Campus presented Guerrilla Girls 1985–2000. Organized by Robin Tewes, professor of art, the group show was a retrospective of poster work produced by the Guerrilla Girls, an anonymous female art collective dedicated to fighting racism and sexism in the art world. n Hidden Talents, an exhibit of art work by Pace University faculty and staff, was on view at the Choate House Gallery. n Ellen Mandel, professor of media, communications, and visual arts, rallied the largest university team to participate in the 2013 Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, held on September 9 in Central Park. Pace was awarded the prize for largest university team and Mandel, a longtime volunteer with the race, was also recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. n The Center for Community Action and Research and the Office of Multicultural Affairs co-sponsored a Common Hour Conversation, Trayvon Martin: A Community Discussion. Dyson professors Amy Foerster, Ida Dupont, Demosthenes Long, and Satish Kolluri were panelists. Events October 2013 n Pace Performing Arts presented Dogfight. n More than 70 Westchester and New York City students participated in Make a Difference Day working with non-profits in the Bronx and Brooklyn to help beautify elementary school campuses. n The Environmental Center in Westchester co-sponsored a Conservation Café seminar titled Radioactive Gas in Our Pipelines. n The Science Seminar on Wildlife Forensics and Paleoecology took place at Willcox on the Westchester Campus. n ¡Viva la Tortuga!, the short documentary produced by students in the media, communications, and visual arts travel documentary course, was accepted to the Wildlife Conservation Film Festival. The film screened as part of a festival workshop. n A delegation from the Nanjing Normal University visited Pace. The two universities signed a partnership agreement that broadens opportunities for faculty and student exchanges between the two universities. A musical performance by visiting Chinese musicians closed the event. November 2013 n Pace Performing Arts presented Lysistrata Jones. n The Department of American Studies co-sponsored the 2013 New York Metropolitan American Studies Association Conference on November 2. Distinguished faculty from Cornell University, Penn State, and Hunter College, among others, gathered to explore this year's conference theme, American Masculinities. n Dyson College and the New York chapter of the Women's National Book Association co-sponsored the Women Writing Women's Lives seminar, an event featuring female biographers who write about female subjects. The seminar included some of today's most interesting biographers including Dyson Distinguished Professor Emerita Jean Fagan Yellin, author of Harriet Jacobs: A Life and other books about African American history. n From the VOX Creative Art Series, poet Matthew Klane read from his new poetry collection, Che. December 2013 n Pace Performing Arts presented Blue Room. n Three-time Nobel Peace Prize nominee and Project Pericles' first Periclean Activist-in-Residence Kathy Kelly gave a talk about achieving peace, her work in Afghanistan, and how individuals can engage in these issues. n The Confucius Institute co-hosted the 7th Annual Winter Cultural Festival with the New York Chinese Opera Society (NYCOS) at the Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts, which featured performances by world-renowned Peking and Kun opera singers and musicians.
