6 Dyson College of Arts and Sciences Shaping the Future Pleasantville's Anniversary 50th Dyson College Establishes Advisory Board Dyson College established the first Dyson College of Arts and Sciences Board of Advisors (BOA) in spring 2014. The BOA's mission is to assist the Dean, faculty, and staff in raising the academic profile of Dyson College to become one of the nation's best schools offering a high-quality liberal arts education combined with preparation for professional achievement. Board members will consult with and advise the Dean on a range of key goals including enhancing the impact and reputation of Dyson's programs, career planning and placement of students, alumni engagement, and academic external affairs that affect the future of the college. "I'm thrilled to have a team of accomplished alumni from all areas of the liberal arts to assist me with achieving Dyson's educational mission of providing quality academic programs and to strengthen our community," said Dean Nira Herrmann. Board members are leaders in her or his own field who exemplify the spirit of service and ideals of liberal education that underscore Dyson College's mission to nurture the discovery, creation, and application of knowledge across the humanities and the social, natural, and mathematical sciences. Kenneth Jackson, Famed New York Historian, Delivers Lecture for Signature Anniversary Event The anniversary's signature academic event, a lecture by the preeminent New York historian Kenneth Jackson, was co-sponsored by Dyson College. Jackson is a professor of history at Columbia University, the editor-in-chief of The Encyclopedia of New York City, and president emeritus of the New York Historical Society. Jackson's talk, "The Ideal Suburb: The Evolution of Westchester County in the 20th Century," examined the growth and history of Westchester County and Pace's role in that history. Delivered on April 7, 2014, at the Kessel Student Center, the talk was well- attended by members of the Pace Community, the public, and history buffs alike. The year 2013 marked the 50th anniversary of the Westchester Campus' Pleasantville location and a number of commemorative events took place throughout the year.
