9 a. A grade of "F" in any course in the Psychology Graduate Program b. Two grades below "B" in any courses in the Psychology Graduate Program c. Failure to maintain any of the standards noted in the completion requirements ere are other circumstances for which problems with student perfor- mance will result in referral to a three-person subcommittee of the Scho- lastic Standing Committee for further deliberation and/or implementa- tion of a plan for monitoring of student progress. ese include: a. Failure to maintain at least a "B" (3.0) average in the Psychology Graduate Programs for more than one semester b. Failure to demonstrate proficiencies in program-specific competencies c. Any report that the student is engaged in unethical or unprofessional practices Following deliberation, the subcommittee of the Scholastic Standing Committee might recommend any number of options, including dis- missal, continued academic probation, temporary part-time study, and temporary suspension of professional activities in the McShane Center or field placement settings, or, recommendation for involvement in an im- provement plan. Following deliberation, the subcommittee of the scho- lastic standing committee will then provide a feedback meeting with the student. e purpose of the meeting is to clarify student progress, make recommendations for student development, and develop a time-line for further student evaluation. For situations which call for automatic dismissal, the relevant Psychology Department Program Director will notify the student of their dismissal and inform them of rights and procedures related to appealing their dismissal. For situations that have been referred to the Scholastic Standing Committee, the subcommittee will make a recommendation to the faculty regarding actions to be taken. e plan must be approved by the Psychology Department Faculty. In cases where the subcommittee of the Scholastic Standing Committee recommends dismissal, this action must be approved by the Psychology Department Faculty. All students who have been dismissed from one of the graduate programs have the right to appeal the dismissal. MASTER OF SCIENCE IN EDUCATION IN SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN BILINGUAL SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGY Bilingual students who are enrolled in the MSEd program in School Psychology or PsyD Program in School-Clinical Child Psychology are eligible to complete additional coursework and practicum experiences that allow them to be eligible for the Bilingual Education Extension (PPS/ADMIN) to the New York State teaching certificate in School Psychology. Students who elect to complete the Bilingual Specialization receive train- ing that enables them to provide school psychological services to children in both monolingual and bilingual settings. Additional coursework fo- cuses more intensively on the theory and practice of bilingual/multicul- tural education and methods of providing psychological services in the target language. Students receive integrated training from psychology and speech and language faculty in the area of bilingual language develop- ment and disorders. Students entering the PsyD program with advanced standing may also obtain the experiences needed to apply for the New York State Bilingual School Psychology Certificate. Typically, this requires enrolling in PSY 750B and PSY 751B, in addition to fulfilling the other Bilingual School Psychology Specialization requirements. Program Prerequisites In addition to prerequisites required for the MSEd program, students must have courses or show competencies in principles and problems in education and curriculum development or methods of teaching and in- struction. Students enrolled in the Bilingual Specialization will also be required to complete a course in Foundations of Bilingual Education (Currently ED 551 or equivalent). Students should bear in mind that in order to fulfill the requirements for the Bilingual Education Extension (PPS/ADMIN) to the New York State teaching certificate in School Psy- chology, they will be required to pass both oral and written proficiency examinations in both English and the second language. Before students are enrolled in the Bilingual School Psychology Internship Experiences (PSY 750A; PSY 751A), they will be required to pass the Bilingual Educa- tion Assessment (BEA) in both English and the target language. It is expected that the training experience will de- vote at least 30% of the time working with bilingual populations. Additional Coursework (9 credits) Students in the Bilingual Specialization must additionally complete the following coursework: SPE 640 Communication & Language & the Bilingual Child in the Classroom (1 credit) SPE 641 Bilingual Language Development and Disorders (3 credits) PSY 876 Multicultural/Gender Issues (3 credits) PSY 709A Practicum: Counseling the Culturally Different (1 credit) PSY 703A Practicum: Limiting Bias in Bilingual Assessment (1 credit) Confirmation of the MSEd in School Psychology with a Specialization in Bilingual School Psychology Students who successfully complete all of the requirements for the MSEd in School Psychology as well as the additional requirements for the Bilin- gual Specialization, and pass the proficiency examination, will receive the MSEd in School Psychology degree with a Bilingual Specialization from
