We currently have three programs, the Master of Arts (MA) in Psychology, the Master of Science in Education (MSEd) in School Psychology, and the Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) in School-Clinical Child Psychology. Students in the MSEd and PsyD programs may also complete a Specialization in Bilingual School Psychology that is approved by the New York State Department of Education for attaining certification as a bilingual school psychologist. Sonia Suchday, PhD Department Chair Dear Prospective MA Students, ank you for your interest in the MA in Psychology program offered in the New York City campus of Pace University. is program is designed to appeal to a variety of highly motivated individuals who want to explore the field of Psychology further and determine how they can apply such knowledge to their career goals or a future doctoral program. A hallmark of the MA in Psychology program is the sense of community amongst our students who bring the value of their varied backgrounds and interests to the classroom. Additionally, our outstanding faculty aim to cultivate professionalism and a greater appreciation of the discipline. is 36 credit hour program provides students with a general master's level preparation in Psychology. Half of the courses in this program are required and represent foundation areas in psychology. e other courses in this graduate program are elective offerings allowing students to explore a range of areas in psychology, such as forensic psychology, psychopathology, human learning, personnel psychology, mentored lab class, and international psychology, to mention a few. Indeed, many graduates of this program continue their education at the doctoral level. Richard S. Velayo, PhD Director, MA in Psychology Program Dear Prospective MSEd and PsyD Students, e MSEd in School Psychology is a professional practice training program, preparing graduates to work in educational facilities, such as school districts. In order to be eligible for the Bilingual School Psychology Certificate, students must demonstrate competency in a foreign language. Students in this program enroll for a minimum of three years of course work, which includes a one year, 1,200 clock hour internship. Many graduates of these programs work in New York Metropolitan school districts. Students who have already completed the course work and internship requirements of a school psychology program and are eligible for New York State Psychology Certification are eligible to apply for advanced standing in the PsyD program. Regardless of advanced standing status, all students complete the 110/11 credit hour PsyD program. e PsyD in School-Clinical Child Psychology is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) as a combined professional scientific program (school/clinical). (e APA Committee on Accreditation is located at APA, 750 First Street NE, Washington, DC 20002-4242; (202) 336-5979). e PsyD program is also approved by the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP; 4340 East West Highway, Suite 402, Bethesda, MD 20814; (301) 657-0270). e PsyD in School-Clinical Child Psychology integrates field experience with academic preparation, within a practitioner-scholar training model. is program is very competitive, with approximately 300 applications annually; the acceptance rate is approximately 20%. e typical student group is approximately 90% female, ranging in age from 20's through 50's, and includes students from across the United States and foreign countries as well. e student body is ethnically and culturally diverse and includes students with disabilities.
