Accordingly, seminars accompanying field place- ments (i.e., EDU 701; EDU 702; PSY 750; PSY 751; PSY 821; PSY 822) will typically meet beyond the end of the scheduled academic calendar. f. Acceptable internship experiences shall consist of continuous periods of not less than six months duration in each setting, and at least 16 hours per week in each setting. g. With the permission of the Director of Field Training and the Director of Graduate Programs, a student may complete the distributed internship requirement over a maximum time period of three years. A grade of K (grade pending) remains on the student's transcript until the distributed internship is complete. Each student is required to receive signed approval from the Director of Field Training before the onset of all field training activities in each set- ting. Each student must also submit forms signed by his/her psychology field supervisor that attest to the nature, content, and duration of these training experiences. Competency Based Assessment: Each student is monitored with respect to their attainment of profession-wide competencies. At least some por- tion of the evaluation for each competency area involves direct observa- tion of the student. Some of these competency evaluations are embedded within required clinic practica or coursework. Other evaluations of com- petency take place through proficiency and competency examinations. Both clinic psychotherapy supervisors and psychology supervisors in the students' externship and internship settings also provide ratings of com- petence across the broad range of professional competencies addressed within the program. Students are consistently provided feedback regard- ing mastery of competencies. Additionally, each student is provided with at least one annual feedback meeting with faculty members in which all information pertaining to both discipline-specific knowledge and profes- sion-wide competencies in school-clinical child psychology is gathered, strengths noted, suggestions for growth provided, and an overall evalu- ation determined. PROFICIENCY AND COMPREHENSIVE EXAMS During the last semester of school psychology internship (typically the third year of the doctoral program), students are required to take the Comprehensive Examination. Students who have completed the first three years of doctoral course work, and have completed 1,200 hours of distributed internship, including 750 hours in a school setting, are eligible to be recommended to the New York State Department of Education for Certification in School Psychology. Students must pass the Comprehen- sive Examination in order to proceed to further doctoral study. Students are permitted to take the Comprehensive Exam a maximum of two times. Advanced Standing Students Advanced standing students are those who have satisfactorily complet- ed the course work and internship requirements of a school psychology program and are eligible for New York State School Psychology Certifica- tion. Although advanced standing students are given 45 graduate transfer credits toward the 110/111 graduate doctoral program, students with ad- vanced standing in the PsyD program must complete PSY 713, PSY 715, PSY 720, the Comprehensive Examination, and 18 additional graduate credits at Pace University prior to beginning the fourth year field experi- ences (PSY 821 and PSY 822) and related seminars. Advanced standing students are required to take and pass all sections of the Comprehensive Examination and complete the program within six years.
