| DCISE ANNUAL REPORT 2015 - 2016 4
INTRODUCTION
The Dyson College Institute for Sustainability and the Environment (DCISE) was established with the mission
to bring together faculty, students and programs throughout the University that involve environmental
and sustainability issues. The Institute functions as a dynamic academic center and resource for the entire
Pace community, and will also engage members of the external community who are concerned about
environmental issues. Its dedicated spaces, resources, and programs support students with a wide range of
opportunities to fully engage in the interdisciplinary study of the environment through hands-on scientific,
policy, conservation, and advocacy curricular and co-curricular activities and experiences.
The Institute currently has six constituent units: The Department of Environmental Studies and Science (ESS);
the Academy for Applied Environmental Studies (PAAES); the Environmental Consortium of Colleges and
Universities (EC); the Dyson College Nature Center (NC); the Institute for Environmental and Regional Studies
(PIERS); and the Dyson College Center for the Arts, Society and Ecology (CASE). While each of these have
their own specific, unique initiatives, many initiatives of DCISE involve interaction among the units.
This report presents a summary of the activities of DCISE during the first full academic year of its existence.
