| DCISE ANNUAL REPORT 2015 - 2016 7 This year, the Clinic was also offered on the New York City campus. In a first for New York State, the NYC Environmental Policy Clinic developed a draft executive order for Governor Andrew Cuomo that would create a New York Harbor Oyster Restoration Council to make the restoration of oysters in New York City an official policy of the State. Working with the Billion Oyster Project, Riverkeeper, NY-NJ Harbor Baykeeper, Pace Law School and policy experts, the clinicians developed a 12-point program that would supplant century-old marketing policies with a multi-agency council charged with facilitating the creation of an oyster habitat in and around New York City. The New York City Clinic also entered as a team in the Annual Mock Legislative Hearing, and won the award for best team. This initiative is discussed in the Co-curricular Activities section below. A number of new undergraduate courses in New York City, including three learning communities, were developed in concert with CASE: Super Learning Community (LC): Social Change and Environmental Justice Learning community of creative "thought leaders" to explore social change, environmental justice, art, politics, activism and ethnography to envision a future that is sustainable in a global culture. Involves Departments of Art, Sociology/Anthropology, Political Science, and Peace and Justice Studies. LC: Art Meets Science in the Costa Rica Rainforest Learning community pairing a scientific research experience with an environmentally-focused art course in an important global biodiversity hotspot. Involves Departments of Art and Biology. LC: Art for Change Learning community examines art and its context by understanding the underlying values it reflects. Students learn how political and socially aware art has entered mainstream discourse as an integral part of a new historical practice. New course: Art Meets Science ART 271, 3 cr. (stand-alone course or LC/INT with any science)
