Students in Dyson College's Environmental Policy Clinic tackle
real-world environmental issues by collaborating with regional
organizations to design and implement policy reform.
This year, student clinicians worked with the Billion Oyster Project,
a nonprofit ecosystem restoration and education project that aims
to restore one billion live oysters to New York Harbor by 2030. Why?
Because oysters filter the water, provide habitats for marine species,
and help protect New York's coastline from the potentially devastating
force of the waves.
The students' work involved drafting legislation to make oyster
restoration policy a requirement of the state of New York. In April, they
visited the Billion Oyster Project headquarters on Governor's Island to
see how their policy work affects the project. They even got their hands
dirty, preparing fertilized oysters for planting in the harbor.

Rossana Rosado '83 was confirmed as
the 66
th
Secretary of State of New York.
Secretary Rosado is best known for
her successful tenure as the publisher
and editor of El Diario-La Prensa, the
largest Spanish-language newspaper
in the country. The first woman to
hold these positions, she transformed
the publication into a daily media
marque. Long committed to public
service, she served on the board of the
Port Authority of New York and New
Jersey, and chairs Governor Cuomo's
Council on Community Re-entry
and Reintegration of New Yorkers
returning from prison.
Secretary Rosado received her BA in
Journalism from Pace University and
is a former Pace University Trustee.
