pace.edu/dyson One Pace Plaza New York, NY 10038 Nihal Al Qawasmi created MissMuslim, the "halal-Cosmo" that set out to be an online publication for young Muslim women unlike any before it. "MissMuslim is a fast-growing online publication founded by me and two good friends. Conversations on mental health, relationships, sex, women's health, motherhood, etc. are avoided in our community and considered "taboo." As the first Muslim- women founded publication to unapologetically have these discussions, MissMuslim provides Muslim and non-Muslim women a safe platform to express their thoughts. Recently, we created a "MisterMuslim" section for our male allies to partake in - which has been a great (and fun) addition to our team of talented writers!" "I am passionate about sustainable living and the environment, and I don't think I would have gained as much knowledge or experience had I not attended Pace. The Environmental Studies and Science department in Dyson College wants you to succeed and find your niche. Through the Environmental Policy Clinic, I have been able to research and develop legislation on topics I am passionate about. As a member of the Green Pace Sustainability Committee, I organized PaceUnPlugged, an energy conservation competition between residence halls in Pleasantville. I plan to study environmental law upon graduation." "I made my first movie when I was five years old, so it is no surprise that I'm a film and screen studies major. Of the 10 feature films I have completed, six were made at Pace. This past January, Slave Girls on the Moon (2014) won Best Comedy at the Miami International Science Fiction Film Festival, and The Menace with Five Arms (2013) and Dracula A.D. 2015 (2015) were both nominated for Rondo Hatton Classic Horror Awards. I am working on my eleventh film, The Return of Sherlock Holmes, and upon graduation, plan to continue to make films." RISING Stars "I came to Pace because of its motto of Opportunitas, and am a product of its commitment to fostering leadership and realizing student potential. On campus, I serve as Executive President of the Student Government Association, and on two of the President's committees. I also completed the competitive one-week Harvard Business School Summer Venture in Management Program for college seniors that provides an understanding of the challenges business leaders face, as well as the positive impact they can have on society. Upon graduation, I want to work in consulting and increase the visibility of underrepresented groups in the corporate world."
