Dyson College
he students and
faculty of the media,
communications,
and visual arts travel
documentary course
have travelled far and
wide bringing back
stories about the environment, and people
and places that we might not learn about
otherwise. They have captured important
and powerful stories — but none perhaps
as long in the making as this year's
documentary Cuba's Crossroads –
Hope, Rock and [R]Evolution.
The sixth in a series of films about
environmental sustainability, Cuba's
Crossroads is distinct because it was filmed
in Cuba, a place where few Americans
had been allowed to visit since diplomatic
relations between the United States and
island nation ended in 1961.
From unspoiled beaches to an organic farm
supplying the mint for mojitos, to historic
streets and self-sufficient neighborhoods,
our students recorded a momentous time
when two nations began to let go of cold
war vestiges and chart a new way forward.
The documentary had its world premiere
on May 10, 2016 at the Jacob Burns Film
Center in Pleasantville, NY. It can be viewed
at www.pace.edu/dyson/cuba.
