Tony Award Nominee Irene Sankoff, an MFA Acting graduate from the Actors Studio Drama School, was nominated for Tony Awards in the categories of Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score for the heartwarming Broadway musical, Come From Away. e musical tells the true story of a small town in Newfoundland that welcomed more than 7,000 travelers from around the world, stranded by the September 11th attacks. celebrating dyson's historic firsts for pace university. Truman Scholar Taslim Tavarez Garcia '18 was named a 2017 Truman Scholar. She is one of only 62 students to receive this competitive national scholarship, and she is the first Pace University student to do so. She will receive a $30,000 scholarship toward graduate school and professional development training in public service leadership. She is a double major in Political Science, and Peace and Justice Studies. Doctor of Philosophy e University conferred its first Doctor of Philosophy degree to Poonam Doshi '17. Dr. Doshi earned the degree in Mental Health Counseling, the first Doctor of Philosophy degree offered by the University in its 111-year history, and the first of its kind in New York State.
