In a field trip to the Newtown Creek Wastewater
Treatment Plant in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, students
learned from ecologists and plant workers about
the New York State watershed, what happens to our
wastewater, sewage and storm water, and combined
sewer outflows (CSOs) and their impact on the East
River ecology, water quality, and conservation.
New York City clinicians proposed
legislation closing a loophole that allows
underage individuals to purchase and
possess tobacco products in New York
State. Students presented their research
and proposed legislation in testimony
before the New York City Council
Committee on Health.
