WATER COOPERATION AND CONFLICT
On April 13, 2017 at the New York City campus, Dyson College and DCISE presented the highly-anticipated Third Summit on
Resilience: Water Cooperation and Conflict: The Local and Global Challenge. The day-long conference brought together the best
and brightest of Pace University faculty and other luminaries to discuss innovative solutions for the protection and sharing of the
Earth's most precious and finite resource, water. This event was free for students and open to the public.
This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Peter Gleick, is renowned for his analysis of the impact of climate change upon Earth's water
resources and for writing policies defining the human right to water. He is chief scientist and president emeritus of the Pacific
Institute, a global water think tank, and a 2003 MacArthur Genius Award recipient.
In addition to his keynote address on the global human right to water, water conflict and climate change, he also served as the
first DCISE Scholar-in-Residence. In this role, he held talks and seminars for students and faculty on solutions to national and
global water conflicts, and contributed to the formulation of a new water education program at Pace University.
A website was established in coordination with the conference, located at www.pace.edu/water. The website will act as a
repository for previous and future Resilience Summit content and will eventually be incorporated into the web presence of
DCISE's water initiative. A series of papers on various aspects of resilience related to water resources and use will be published as
a symposium by the Journal of Environmental Studies and Science. Also, a video playlist of the day's highlights is available on the
Dyson College YouTube channel.
