2017-18 CCAR Annual Report | 13 Going Above and Beyond for CCAR The energy and passion shown by our students is crucial to our success. We would like to thank the following students for their tireless work and dedication to our student-led committees. Marketing and Outreach Committee: Christina Bubba '20, Lizzie Frisher '19, Jennifer Marbela '21, Izabella Morris '21, and Kamari Stewart '21 Political Action Team: Alexis Curcio '19, Florence Lubash '22, Tim Martinez '19, Kristin McInerney '21, and Karen Soliz '21 Research Fellows: Natalie Holguin '19, Fatimah Majors '20, Rachel Skopp-Cardillo '20, and Connor Wills '21 The CCAR Student Leaders in Service Program gives students the opportunity to join forces with local community partners to plan and lead service events, strengthening skills in leadership, event planning, social justice, and advocacy. The 2017–18 cohort included: • Carina Draper '19, Political Science Hamilton Madison House, New York, NY • Sammy Hickman '18, Art Kubemas, New York, NY • Duke Huang '20, Art, Peace and Justice Studies Added Value Farm, New York, NY • David Lê '19, Marketing New Roots Community Farm, Bronx, NY • Isabella Lupo '20, Peace and Justice Studies (pictured) New Roots Community Farm, Bronx, NY • Karina Roca '20, Political Science Kelly Street Garden, Bronx, NY Defending the Hudson River Rowan Lanning '18 and Christina Thomas '20, were the winners of the 2017 Project Pericles Debating for Democracy "Letter to an Elected Official" competition. The pair, with fellow Pace Environmental Policy Clinic students, successfully completed a campaign to require the U.S. Coast Guard to publicly examine and address the environmental impacts of establishing 43 anchorages in the Hudson River. In May 2017, the students travelled to Washington, D.C. to meet with the chiefs of staff of Hudson Valley representatives to garner support in ensuring the Coast Guard follows through with their commitment. "The CCAR has truly expanded the walls of Pace University to its community. The volunteers from Pace have made a huge difference for the clients of Hamilton- Madison House. They made our community Halloween Party a reality, brought a rainbow of color to the walls of our building, and allowed our music students to perform on a professional stage."
