DCISE Annual Report 2017-2018 14 CENTER FOR THE ARTS, SOCIETY AND ECOLOGY CENTER FOR THE ARTS, SOCIETY & ECOLOGY Events and Field Trips This year, CASE organized the following field trips and events: • Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Center, field trip • Drawing in the environment: New York City Waterfront, field trip • Urban soil remediation as art practice, Jan Mun, visiting artist • Urban and suburban beekeeping, Prof. Roger Sayre and Jan Mun, visiting artist • DIY Chop Shop: repurposed clothing workshop • Rachel Frank Lecture • Faculty Show at OneSpace Gallery, included environmental art works • Animations on Invasive Species, lecture by Marina Zurkow • Environmental Photography, lecture by Eve Laramée • "Unravel" and "Lessons of Darkness," film screenings New Programs Developed The Art and Environmental Studies and Science departments developed a new minor in Environmental Art and Social Practice. Highlights Editorial teamwork on new textbook; Eve Laramée. Provocations, Pedagogy and Other Strategies for Teaching Ecological Art, from the International Ecoart Network Conference presentation; Eve Laramée. "Interaction: Learning Communities and Collaborations in the Arts, Sciences and Social Practice" The mission of CASE is to foster creative collaborations and research between the arts and sciences to support an understanding of complex ecological systems, help solve society's environmental challenges, and inspire positive change for future generations.
