S t a ff Spotli g h t CCAR: Annual Report 2019–2020 5 Heather Novak Interim Director Dan Botting Associate Director Erin Mysogland Program Coordinator Valerie Eristil '20, Student Projects Coordinator, PLV In addition to working at CCAR this year, Valerie was also a F.I.R.E. peer educator and FACES Teaching Assistant. A Biology major, she will be teaching middle school science in NYC beginning fall 2020. Valerie is passionate about equality and combating discrimination based on age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation, as well as sexual assault survivor advocacy. On working at CCAR: "We have autonomy over our projects--our supervisors value and encourage student input on what we work on." Emma Beach '23, Vote Everywhere Ambassador, NYC Emma is double majoring in Political Science and WGS with a minor in Peace and Justice Studies. Passionate about reproductive justice, she hopes to apply to law school in the future to continue her fight for equality. As a Vote Everywhere Ambassador, Emma works in partnership with the Andrew Goodman Foundation to register Pace students to vote. What is the most meaningful part of your job? "I get to encourage my peers to be civically engaged." Alejandra Batista '22, Student Outreach and Media Projects Coordinator, NYC Through her Political Science major and work at the Center for Community Action and Research (CCAR), Alejandra is able to address current social justice issues such as immigration, animal rights, and gun violence. She enjoys volunteering and traveling to new places. Alejandra regularly participates in Take Action tablings, where she addresses social justice issues and engages students and faculty in helping to solve them. What is your favorite CCAR event? "This year it was Debating for Democracy. This event opened my eyes to new, effective, and peaceful ways to organize a protest or campaign." Student Staff
