Developing, implementing, and evaluating effective clinical psychological and clinical health consultation services (PSY 730, PSY 731, PSY 801, PSY 732, PSY 733, PSY 830). Special attention is paid to psychological appraisal and consultation in medical settings, and efficacy in interdisciplinary applications alongside medical health care providers. b. Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships, and leadership skills enabling the provision of constructive criticism regarding management and organizational leadership as well as advocacy skills needed to promote prevention programs and appropriate system change. c. Developing skills needed to coordinate inter-disciplinary assessment and intervention strategies, and support effective interdisciplinary team functioning. Criteria for admission • Admission is open to qualified holders of a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution. By January 1, applicants must submit all transcripts from prior academic preparation, three letters of reference, a personal statement, and a completed Pace University application form with the associated fee. Scores from the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) are optional. e application process may be completed online. • As a program prerequisite, admitted applicants must have background preparation in abnormal psychology, developmental psychology, experimental psychology, general psychology, personality theory, and statistics. A knowledge base in human biology is valued, as it is apt for someone preparing to become a clinical psychologist with specialized training in health psychology. It is required that students have all psychology prerequisite preparation prior to entering the program. If incoming students are missing one or a few prerequisites, those requirements may be satisfied by taking appropriate undergraduate coursework during the summer, prior to matriculation, or successful completions of the relevant, related examination(s). • Entering students need to be familiar with major theoretical concepts, empirical findings and historical trends in psychology, as well as showing a basic knowledge of research methodology. Oral and written communication skills, a capacity for critical thinking, a clear disposition to ethical behavior, and a penchant for scientific inquiry are all highly valued. Students need to be able to work well with others and appreciate diversity in its broadest sense. ey must be open to examining personal values and to acquire and utilize professionally relevant knowledge regardless of their own beliefs and values. • Some international applicants will need to submit TOEFL, IELTS or Pearson PTE academic scores in accordance with Pace University admissions policies. Selection for admission is based on careful review of applicant folders by the PhD program core and associated faculty. Multiple criteria are employed to determine eligibility for admission, including previous levels of academic performance, letters of recommendation, previous work and research experience, as well as any aspects related to individual and cultural diversity or life experience that an applicant may bring to the program. Applicants may choose to submit GRE scores for consideration but are not required to do so. Consideration is given to the applicant's interest, readiness, and intent to pursue lifelong learning and research. Applicants selected for an interview will be interviewed by faculty and possibly by students as well. Final decisions are based upon faculty discussion focused on all aspects of an applicant's credentials. e PhD program now adheres to APA timelines pertaining to admissions decisions. It is not required that an applicant apply for acceptance in a specific lab of a faculty member. However, specific research activities begin early in the program, and applicants are welcome to contact specific faculty members about their interests and availability for direct mentorship. Program curriculum e PhD in Clinical Psychology (Health Care Emphasis) program develops competencies that integrate scientific study with pre- professional coursework and field training. An enroute master's degree is awarded upon completion of a thesis at the end of the second year of study, and program graduates will have completed all pre-doctoral academic and internship requirements needed to be admitted to the New York State Licensing Examination for the professional practice of psychology. e program requires 101 credit hours of study, a qualifying examination aer the first year, a comprehensive examination, typically during the third or fourth year, and completion of a doctoral dissertation. Sequence of Training. e program integrates coursework with research and clinical experiences in a sequential and cumulative training experience that increases in complexity from years one to four, with the goal of preparing students for full-time internship and, upon graduation, the ability to successful obtain and engage in further research and clinical training (e.g., post-doctoral training).
