E D U / D Y S O N 24 PROGRAM UPDATES PROGRAM UPDATES Psychology Special Events Pulitzer Prize Finalist and Author Event The Psychology depa ment, Pleasantville campus, held a special event featuring Jonathan Rosen, author of The Best Minds—hailed as one of Barack Obama's favorite reads of 2023 and a Pulitzer Prize finalist. More than just a book signing, it was an oppo unity to engage deeply with the complexities of mental health through the lens of powe ul storytelling. Rosen was joined in conversation by Professor Ross Robak, PhD, and Professor and Senior Advisor to the Provost Joseph Franco, PhD. Together, they led a compelling discussion that bridged literature, lived experience, and academic insight and that highlighted the transformative power of stories—and the impo ance of fostering dialogue around mental wellness in academic spaces. True Pa nership Event Inspires Action The Ninth Annual True Pa nership event, hosted by the Psychology depa ment on the Pleasantville campus, brought together students, professionals, and community leaders for an inspiring evening focused on youth mental health and substance use awareness. In pa nership with the Harris Project, the event spotlighted the o en-overlooked issue of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders in teens and young adults. A endees were moved by a screening of the award- winning COD (Co-occurring Disorders) PSA, You Don't Know the Half of It, created in collaboration with Havas New York, followed by thought-provoking dialogue inspired by Us Weekly's special edition The Missing Issue, which centers on the realities of untreated mental illness and addiction. The event was made possible through strong collaboration with key pa ners, including the Harris Project, Westchester County Depa ment of Community Mental Health, Nonprofit Westchester, and Pace's Mental Health Counseling program in Pleasantville. Chemistry and Physical Sciences In fall 2024, the American Chemical Society (ACS) commi ee for professional education continued their approval of Pace's chemistry degrees for 2024–29. ACS has approved Pace's chemistry and biochemistry programs since the 1980s. Their approval places Pace programs among the top one- third of 1,500 universities and colleges offering majors in the field of chemistry. New Undergraduate Programs BS in Pharmaceutical Sciences This STEM-designated program offered on the Pleasantville campus blends chemistry and biology to design, develop, and deliver effective therapies for human disease and constitutes prerequisite courses for graduate schools (including Pharmacy school). BS in Chemical Biology This STEM-designated program offered on the Pleasantville campus offers an interdisciplinary foundation in chemistry, biology, and biochemistry, preparing students for high-demand fields like biotechnology, genetic engineering, and pharmaceuticals. The Publishing Lab is created, wri en, and edited by graduate students of the Publishing program working with Faculty Advisor and Professor Eileen Kreit. This year's volume consists of more than 50 sho stories, poems, excerpts from novels, plays, nonfiction essays, and photographs from 20 publishing students. The Publishing Lab transforms Pace students into published authors and accomplished professionals who have applied their classroom learning in creating this volume.
