| DCISE ANNUAL REPORT 2015 - 2016 8
The Nature Center was involved in the development of some learning communities on the Pleasantville
campus:
The Naturalists (a CAP LC)
Nature Exposed
Current Issues in Peace, Justice and Sustainability
The Center also developed a civic engagement ENV course, Act Locally, and, with Melanie DuPuis, chair of the
Department of ESS, worked to revise the Naturalist Certificate Program.
Graduate Degree Programs
ESS has worked on improving and expanding the graduate curriculum. For the MEP, the department
worked with the Law School to create a new JD/MEP dual degree program and also coordinated a joint
science and policy class with the Law School. One required course was replaced with an elective, enabling
students to work on specific topics as part of their MEP curriculum for all four semesters of the program.
Matthew Aiello-Lammens was appointed as interim director of the Masters of Science in Environmental
Science (MSES) and re-connected with students who have finished classes but have not finished writing
their Master's Thesis. ESS will be reviewing the MSES curriculum next year and will propose a BS-MSES dual
degree.
MEP Director, Michelle Land, and Melanie DuPuis revisied the MEP curriculum to enable students to
come to the program with interests either as general practitioners or as students interested in a variety of
environmental subjects. An information sheet on environmental faculty at Pace, all of whom are willing to
mentor MEP/MSES students, was developed.
