DCISE Annual Report 2016-2017
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSORTIUM OF
COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES
The Consortium, founded by Pace University in 2002, has
grown to 62 peer institutions in the Hudson-Mohawk region
and an individual membership network of 412 faculty, staff
and administrators. Because of its growth, the Consortium's
leadership has undertaken a strategic planning year to
prioritize programming, assess governance structure, and
identify a funding model to carry the organization through the
next decade.
SNAP
Passionate Pace University students formed the Sustainability
Network at Pace (SNAP), a New York City environmental club.
The club is led by Environmental Studies students, Rowan
Lanning '18 and Carly Sheinberg '20, with ESS Assistant
Professor Anne Toomey, PhD, serving as faculty advisor.
CONSERVATION CAFÉ
Co-sponsored by the Nature Center, Conservation Cafés are
planned by a consortium of organizations including the
Federated Conservationists of Westchester County, Grassroots
Environmental Education, Teatown Lake Reservation,
Greenburgh Nature Center, Mianus River Gorge, and
Westchester Land Trust, and are hosted by Pace University on
the Pleasantville campus. These events provide a forum for
community discourse about current environmental issues and
are open to the public.
June 10, "Sound Science on Long Island Sound"
examined issues plaguing Long Island Sound and
some of the solutions in effect for cleaning up the
Sound.
October 14, "What's All the Buzz About Pollinators"
focused on why pollinators are important; what has
been happening to pollinator populations; and what
citizens can do in their own backyards to encourage
pollinators.
