DCISE Annual Report 2016-2017 Faculty and staff of DCISE have fostered partnerships and affiliations with a multitude of organizations and government entities in Westchester County and New York City. Among the most active relationships are: The American Museum of Natural History Billion Oyster Project Bronx River Alliance Green Chimneys Farm and Wildlife Center Greenthumb Community Garden in Harlem Hudson River Subwatershed & Tributary Research Network Jacob Burns Film Center Mianus River Gorge Preserve The Nature Conservancy New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Pocantico River Watershed Alliance Pocantico River Watershed Conservancy Riverkeeper Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture Teatown Lake Reservation Town of New Castle Village of Pleasantville Westchester Green Business Challenge WASTE LAND On March 2, a CASE-organized panel discussion took place in New York City with Dr. Jovanna Stokic, art historian and critic, Jacob Kessler, student moderator, plus four students from the Art, Film and Screen Studies, and Environmental Studies and Science departments. They discussed social practices and environmental justice expressed in the film Waste Land, as well as the featured photography of Brazilian-American Artist, Vik Muniz, and the recycling workers in Sao Paulo, Brazil. COMMUNITY RESILIENCE THROUGH GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE On February 21, a New York City panel discussed using storm water management to address the multi-functional needs of communities as well as the bottom line of making cleaner waterways. The event was a collaboration with the New York City Urban Field Station's Science of the Living City program, a partnership between the US Forest Service, New York City Parks and the Natural Areas Conservancy. The panel was moderated by ESS Assistant Professor Michael Finewood. Panelists included Franco Montalto, Drexel University; Andrea Parker, Gowanus Canal Conservancy; Christina Rosan, Temple University; Marit Larson, New York City Parks; and John McLaughlin, New York City Environmental Protection; with a special presentation by Sara Meerow, University of Michigan. 11 OUTREACH AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ESS Assistant Professor Anne Toomey, PhD, escorted student volunteers from Pace's New York City campus to Teatown Lake Reservation where they helped perform maintenance on trails.
