DCISE Annual Report 2016-2017 10 EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND EVENTS CONSTITUTION MARSH/LITTLE STONY POINT FIELD TRIP SEPTEMBER 23, 2016 Students and faculty traveled to the National Audubon Society's Constitution Marsh Sanctuary and Sandy Beach on the Hudson River, in Hudson Highlands State Park. They seined for fish specimens on the shores of the Hudson River, and canoed and explored a Hudson River tidal marsh, guided by ESS faculty and Sanctuary director Eric Lind. Participants learned about the intricate ecosystem, environmental controversies, and abundant wildlife of the Hudson River estuarine ecosystem. CENTER FOR THE ARTS, SOCIETY AND ECOLOGY (CASE) EVENTS DIY ChopShop: Recycle and Redesign your Own Clothes from Surplus Clothing Workshop, March 30 – April 6, 2017 Participants discussed the environmental impact and labor ethics related to the production of clothing. They also learned how to up-cycle existing used clothing and other "trash" materials to create your own clothing. Exhibition of Devices of Wonder, May 1 -10, 2017 Students learned to make sustainable artwork, using recycled and recyclable materials to create art, thus reducing contributing to the waste stream. DIRT Collective, November 17 – December 8, 2016 Comprised of Pace students, faculty and interested individuals, the presentation exhibited Hopes and Fears: The Next Four Years in the Pace Fingesten Gallery. Curator: Dr. Jovana Stokic, Curatorial Studies and Art Meets Science class. Debris Scatter, October 2 – December 23, 2016 Professor Eve Andrée Laramée's installation "Debris Scatter," which addresses the pollution of outer space with radioactive orbital debris, was exhibited at the Islip Museum. Swale, October 6, 2016 Students visted Swale, a floating edible food forest on a barge that is docked at various locations along the New York City waterfront. During their visit, students learned urban farming techniques and how to identify medicinal and edible plants.
