requirements), maintaining academic integrity, achieving program- specific professional competencies and adhering to ethical and professional standards as promulgated by APA and NASP. ere are certain situations which will result in automatic dismissal from the program. ese include: a. A grade of "F" in any course in the Psychology Graduate Program b. Two grades below "B" in any courses in the Psychology Graduate Program c. Failure to maintain any of the standards noted in the completion requirements ere are other circumstances for which problems with student perfor- mance will result in referral to a three-person subcommittee of the Scho- lastic Standing Committee for further deliberation and/or implementa- tion of a plan for monitoring of student progress. ese include: a. Failure to maintain at least a "B" (3.0) average in the Psychology Graduate Programs for more than one semester b. Failure to demonstrate proficiencies in program-specific competencies c. Any report that the student is engaged in unethical or unprofessional practices Following deliberation, the subcommittee of the Scholastic Standing Committee might recommend any number of options, including dis- missal, continued academic probation, temporary part-time study, and temporary suspension of professional activities in the McShane Center or field placement settings, or, recommendation for involvement in an im- provement plan. Following deliberation, the subcommittee of the scho- lastic standing committee will then provide a feedback meeting with the student. e purpose of the meeting is to clarify student progress, make recommendations for student development, and develop a time-line for further student evaluation. For situations which call for automatic dismissal, the relevant Psychology Department Program Director will notify the student of their dismiss- al and inform them of rights and procedures related to appealing their dismissal. For situations that have been referred to the Scholastic Stand- ing Committee, the subcommittee will make a recommendation to the faculty regarding actions to be taken. e plan must be approved by the Psychology Department Faculty. In cases where the subcommittee of the Scholastic Standing Committee recommends dismissal, this action must be approved by the Psychology Department Faculty. All students who have been dismissed from one of the graduate programs have the right to appeal the dismissal. Time Limits For students entering the doctoral program, Pace University follows New York State Education Department guidelines in establishing a maximum of 10 years for students to complete all requirements for graduation. However, all students are strongly encouraged to complete the program in no more than 6 years. For part-time students the time limit is also 10 years. Satisfactory program requirement completion is determined by a continuous evaluation process. Exceeding the time limit is grounds for dismissal from the doctoral program. Leave of Absence and Maintaining Matriculation A leave of absence is useful to students who must interrupt their graduate studies for a period of time. Doctoral Project e doctoral project is a scholarly undertaking in the area of school-clin- ical child psychology and may be in the form of original research, a pro- gram evaluation, or another project of a scholarly nature approved by the doctoral project adviser and consultant. e student initially develops a project with the consent of his or her project adviser and consultant; the project proposal is presented orally during the doctoral seminar. Upon completion of the project and approval by the doctoral project adviser and consultant, the student makes a final presentation in the doctoral colloquium. Aer making the two presentations, completing the written project, and receiving approval from the adviser and consultant, students will have satisfied the doctoral project requirements in the school-clinical child psychology doctoral program. Competency-Based Training e PsyD program is a competency-based program. All students must demonstrate minimum levels of competence for each of the program goals in terms of readiness for practicum, readiness for internship, and readiness for practice. For competencies that are embedded within course requirements, minimal competency levels are incorporated into class grades, with a grade of "B" indicating that minimal standards have been met. For competencies that are part of practicum, field-work, extern- ship, or internship training, minimal competency levels are established by specific and global ratings of competence by supervisors within those settings. Failure to meet minimal competencies in applied settings is re- flected in the grade for the practicum or seminar that accompanies that experience. Students are required to provide self-assessments for each competency as they progress throughout the program. Finally, competen- cy on a more global level is assessed by each student's ability to successful- ly complete Qualifying Examinations, Comprehensive Examinations, and doctoral project research requirements. If any student is noted as experiencing problems with either foundation- al or functional competencies, the student issues are discussed by core faculty. If there is sufficient concern about the student's progress, a let- ter is generated which directs the student to meet with their advisor and the Program Director. e purpose of the meeting is to clarify student progress, make recommendations for student development, and develop a time-line for further student evaluation. As the student plan is followed, progress is noted and communicated to the student. If recommendations are made and further review reveals that student progress is not adequate, the student is notified and the Program Director and the student's advisor make a recommendation to the faculty for further action regarding the student's progress and status in the program. e recommendation may include reduced course-load, restriction of practica or fieldwork activ- ities, probation, or termination from the program. e full Psychology Department faculty must vote on actions regarding student termination from the program.
