GOING BEYOND THE ACADEMICS SOCIETY OF FELLOWS The Annual Weekend Retreat for the Society of Fellows was held once again in late October at the Warwick Center in upstate New York. Assistant Professors of Political Science Emily Welty and Matthew Bolton led sessions focusing on the theme of "P(e)ace and Justice Studies" that were well attended by 46 students, 14 faculty members, and 4 alumni. The Society of Fellows' year concluded with the Annual Initiation Ceremony on April 25. The 2013 Adelia Williams Class, which bears the name of Dyson College's Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Curriculum Development and Assessment, had 53 new Associate Members and 16 new full Fellows and was the largest class in the history of the Society of Fellows. MODEL U.N. TEAMS BRING HOME NINE AWARDS Pace Westchester and Pace New York City Model United Nation teams competed against 90 universities in the National Model United Nations (NMUN) conference, themed "Change Your World." The two teams were recognized with a combined total of nine awards, including the top honor of Outstanding Delegation for Pace Westchester who represented Japan. CONFUCIUS INSTITUTE BRINGS CHINESE CULTURE WORKSHOPS TO AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM The Confucius Institute teamed up with the non-profit Global Language Project and their Speak to Succeed after-school program to organize four 1-hour Chinese culture workshops for students at Hamilton Heights School PS 368 in Harlem, New York City. The 8-10 year olds learned decorative paper cutting, Taiji boxing, painting, and calligraphy. The Global Language Project is an innovative educational movement that equips disadvantaged public school students with the skills to compete in a globalized world and workforce. • 13 • Year in Review 2012–2013
