APRIL 2013 The Criminal Justice and Security program host the event The Twin Towers and 9/11, featuring guest speaker, John Flynn. Flynn is a retired NYC firefighter. Poets John Koethe, author of ROTC Kills, and Ann Lauterbach, author of Or to Begin Again, give a reading as part of the English department's Poets @ Pace series. JUNE 2013 The Political Science department sponsors the Left Forum—the biggest conference on leftist and progressive politics of its kind in the world. Speakers include Noam Chomsky, Oliver Stone, and Bolivian Vice President Alvaro Garcia Linera. Pace Performing Arts presents Dance Out Loud 2013, featuring the piece Dance in a Straight Line by choreographer Mandy Moore. The Westchester Youth Police Academy's Class of 2013 graduation ceremony was held on Pace's Westchester Campus. The academy is a six-week program designed for high school seniors interested in careers in law enforcement, and for the first time, graduates earned three college credits in criminal justice from Dyson College's Department of Criminal Justice and Security. • Carnegie Hall comes to Pace's Michael Schimmel Center for the Arts with Take the Stage: Sing and Dance with Broadway Stars, a Neighborhood Concert Series presentation by Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute. The Actors Studio Drama School annual repertory season begins. MAY 2013 ¡Viva La Tortuga!, a short documentary produced by Media, Communications, and Visual Arts students about the residents of Magdalena Bay, Mexico working to protect endangered sea turtles, world premieres on the Westchester and New York City campuses. Outstanding student achievement is recognized at the Dyson Award Ceremonies. In Memoriam Dyson College mourns the loss of Barbara Roberts. She was a Pace University staff member for 25 years. Most recently, she served as the Graduate Studies Adviser for the Department of Psychology on the Westchester Campus and played a key role in recruiting and retaining graduate students for the MS in Counseling program. 23 • Year in Review 2012–2013
