Humanities Grounded in the Humanities Women's and Gender Studies Department Takes a Stand Against Sexual Assault P ace students, faculty, and staff engaged in anti-violence activism during Sexual Assault Awareness Week, April 14–20, on the New York City Campus. Events were held in conjunction with National Sexual Assault Awareness Month to raise awareness and offer preventive measures and resources. The department partnered with event sponsors NOW-NYC, A Long Walk Home, and SAFER. The week began with a citywide student summit aimed at building community awareness. Other events included a two-part self-defense workshop, a workshop on bullying, and a screening of the film, The Undetected Rapist. Jen Gaffney from the New York County District Attorney's Sex Crimes Unit spoke to Pace students about victim rights and the process of what happens when a sex crime is committed. The week concluded with "Women and Violence–Connections to Movements," a panel discussion on gender violence including representatives from New York Latinas Against Domestic Violence and the Global Justice Center. Following the presentation, the Pace Community walked through local streets as part of Take Back the Night, a national event to protest sexual violence. MPA Celebrates Three Decades M ore than 100 alumni, students, faculty, and staff gathered in April to celebrate Dyson's Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program and honor its decades-long success. Founded in 1979, the program began as a way to educate county employees. For more than 30 years, students have appreciated and benefited from the program's hands-on approach, applying the lessons learned in the classroom to practical use in nonprofit organizations, health care agencies, elected and appointed government positions, and countless others. Today, students can choose from several paths of study: government, health care management, nonprofit management, and environmental management. "The MPA is a perfect way to combine my skills and leadership abilities into helping others," says student Yeerang Jang. 10 | Dyson College of Arts and Sciences
