Research Undergraduate Research Opportunities D uring the 2011-2012 year, Dyson College continued initiatives designed to cultivate and sustain a culture of research. Ongoing faculty-mentored student research spanned the fields of the sciences, the social sciences and humanities, to creative expression in literature, art, and performance. For the fourth year in a row, Dyson's competitive Summer Undergraduate Student-Faculty Research Awards supported new projects. Undergraduate research took place as students worked side-by-side with professors in laboratory and experiential work settings. Projects included: • The Role of the Retinoblastoma Protein in Cancer Cell Apoptosis • The Politics of Occupy Wall Street • Generation and Characterization of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in the Vasodilator-Stimulated Phosphoprotein • Heat Stress in Arabidopsis Thaliana: A Study of Chemical and Signaling Processes The activities are supported by the Center for Undergraduate Research Experiences (CURE) under the supervision of Assistant Dean Maria T. Iacullo-Bird, PhD. CURE provides leadership, coordination, and support to student-faculty research collaborations, grant-funded research projects and programs, and opportunities for service-based internships. 16 | Dyson College of Arts and Sciences
