The Confucius Institute
The Confucius Institute is dedicated to providing Chinese language and
cultural education, resources, and services to meet the needs of people
from all backgrounds. It functions as a center for:
• Chinese language education, including specialized
courses for travel and business, summer camp, and
the Chinese Bridge Competition
• Chinese cultural teaching, research, and activities,
including seminars, lectures, and cultural events
and festivals
• Proficiency tests, scholarships, and overseas study
in China
• Teacher training, including Pace University faculty
seminars and professional training workshops,
seminars, and conferences
2011-2012 highlights included a special panel "Peace and Harmony:
Reflections from Chinese New Yorkers," as part of Pace Remembers:
The 10th Anniversary of 9/11; the 2nd Annual New York Chinese
Opera Society's (NYCOS) Essay Competition; Chinese New Year
Celebration; and the inaugural Confucius Institute Scholarships,
awarded this year to two Pace University students, Olivia Drouhaut
and Christopher Huang. The Confucius Institute also launched
several new language and cultural courses and programs, including a
Mandarin Chinese course offered free to Pace students, faculty, and
staff; courses in calligraphy and Taiji; and a weekly Chinese Corner,
which pairs native Mandarin speakers with people interested in
learning the language.
