Pace mourns the loss of Anne Lommel, a longtime member of the Performing Arts Department staff and an adjunct faculty member. Pace hosts the finals of the Chinese Bridge East USA Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in the Schimmel Theater. Pace University's MS in Publishing program holds their annual Elliot DeYoung Schein Lecture with special guest speaker, Neil DeYoung, Executive Director of Digital Media, Hachette Digital, Inc., at the Midtown Executive Club. Pace mourns the loss of Patricia Ann (nee Conway) Woodward, a longtime member of the Performing Arts Department staff and an adjunct faculty member. Performing Arts presents their first Theatre Row production Our Lady of 121st Street, directed by Professor Grant Kretchik, and starring students Ashley Rose Folino, Lizabeth Trimble, Dominique Fishback, Gaby Sandoval, Aubree Mullally, Daniel Rings, David Armanino, Jason Duvernan, Emmanuel Polycarpe, Clarke Bliss, Ashley Romans, Justin Hart, Niko Papastefanou, and Brandon Contreras. As a part of Sexual Assault Awareness week, Flip It! Students Organizing Against Violence comes to Pace for a one-day citywide student summit with the goal of building community awareness for student safety, sexual assault policies on campus, and promotion through the arts. Performing Arts Department presents "The Master Series: A Night with Legendary Actress Zoe Caldwell." The New York City Campus' English Department presents awards to English and Film and Screen Studies majors and minors and students from New York City's English Department 300-level literature and creative writing classes who have demonstrated excellence in creative writing. Students present their novel research in the fields of biology, chemistry, forensic science, environmental science, physics, and more at the Tri-Beta Northeastern District Convention. The Criminal Justice Society, Dyson College, the Seidenberg School, and Lubin host Piracy, Liberty, and the Internet, a panel discussion on the proposed SOPA and PIPA bills, featuring speakers both for and against SOPA/PIPA. MAY 2012 Pace's first solar classroom officially opens on April 19 thanks to a $15,000 grant from Con Edison. Dyson Professor Maria Luskay, EdD, New York Times "Dot Earth" blogger and Senior Fellow for Environmental Understanding Andrew Revkin, and Media and Communication Arts students premiere their documentary film Battle Behind the Bottle: A Documentary on the Cork Question on the Westchester Campus. Fox TV's Glee's leading male Finn Hudson chooses the Actors Studio Drama School at Pace as his first choice college. Unfortunately for Finn, despite what he thought was a great audition with Dean Emeritus James Lipton, who makes a cameo appearance, he was rejected. The Psychology Department hosts its 20th Annual Psychology Conference in Manhattan. Dyson students, as well as students from neighboring universities, share theory and research in their chosen fields. Pace Performing Arts presents Dance Out Loud, conceived and directed by renowned choreographer Rhonda Miller, which features more than 50 Pace students performing tap, jazz, ballet, modern, hip hop, and contemporary dance. Students in every discipline are honored at the Dyson Award Ceremonies on both the New York City and Westchester campuses. Dyson College's Master of Public Administration (MPA) Program celebrates three decades of service and education in Westchester. More than 100 alumni, students, faculty, and staff attended the event to honor the program's long success. Through the Center for Community Action and Research, students participate in Alternative Spring Break volunteering at a food bank warehouse in the Bronx, learning about poverty and the shelter system, as well as helping the homeless setup e-mail accounts to start searching for jobs. As a part of the Annual Society of Fellows Induction, 13 students and faculty are inducted into the Rostyslaw Robak Class of Fellows. Dyson student Danielle Cosgrove '12, an Applied Psychology and Human Relations major, is presented the Charles H. Dyson Award. 20 | Dyson College of Arts and Sciences JUNE 2012 War veteran turned actor Matthew Pennington visits Pace to tell his story about how he coped with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and screened A Marine's Guide to Fishing in which Pennington stars. Dyson Professor Ellen Mandel, PhD, represents Pace University at the Jefferson Awards National Ceremonies in Washington D.C. and competes for a Gold Medal Award. The selection of the Gold Medal awardee is made at the national level by the Jefferson Awards Board of Selectors.
